in Getting Things Done, David Allen talks about clearing psychic RAM, the
inefficient mental storage system that keeps reminders and worries
perpetually at the front of one's attention.

so i agree that's annoying, but i don't think keeping lists of reminders
actually keeps psychic RAM free, instead i think it actually loads
more things into it. and i don't want my brain to be empty anyway, i
want to be mulling things over that perhaps i read off a list in the morning

moreover, psychic RAM still obviously remembers what has already been written
down and what still needs to be, otherwise the collection process would
be impossible
